[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]De politie wist afgelopen jaar zo’n 400 illegale vuurwapens in beslag te nemen in onze provincie. Priv\u00e9-detective John Vullers<\/strong> schrikt niet van die cijfers. “Ik denk dat we het met zijn allen een beetje hebben laten gebeuren.”<\/p>\n

Vullers wijst daarbij met name richting de politie. “Zij zijn toch eerste aanspreekpunt als het om dit soort feiten gaat.”Bron van ellende<\/strong>
\nDe detective werkte zelf jarenlang in verschillende functies voor de politie en kreeg zo goed zicht op de wapenhandel \u00e9n de aanpak daarvan. “Lange tijd was de politie gericht op de dader en zijn motieven, en in mindere mate op de bron die erachter zat”, vertelt hij. “Er is dus eigenlijk geen goede registratie van hoe die wapenhandel zich bezighoudt, wat zich daar afspeelt. En juist door het delen van dit soort informatie kan je een beter beeld krijgen van de handel.”Grote belangen<\/strong>
\nNet als wapenexperts van de politie, wijst Vullers op de combinatie tussen drugs- en wapenhandel. In Limburg is vooral de hennephandel populair. “We hebben het dan over belangen, met name financi\u00eble belangen, die criminelen ertoe aanzetten om die waar nodig met hand en tand te verdedigen”, stelt hij. “Daar komt veelvuldig wapengeweld bij ter sprake. En tegenwoordig ook steeds meer zware wapens.”<\/section>\n

Veel van de wapens op de illegale markt komen volgens Vullers uit de Balkan. “Vanuit de Koude Oorlog zijn veel wapens verzwart, wat betekent dat ze in depots lagen en als gestolen werden gemeld. Maar in plaats daarvan werden ze verkocht. Er is een gigantische vraag naar wapens door criminelen. En waar vraag is, is aanbod.”<\/section>\n
WereldWijdWapens<\/strong>
\nHet houdt echter niet op bij handel uit het voormalige Oostblok. “Je hebt ook nog het internetgebeuren, waar je vrij anoniem via darkweb wapens kunt bestellen. Van eenvoudige pistolen tot zware automatische wapens. Je kunt betalen met bitcoins, dus je blijft overal buiten.” Volgens de detective wordt het tijd dat in heel Europa dezelfde wapenregelgeving gehanteerd wordt. “Want in Nederland zijn we vrij streng, wat goed is, maar 200 kilometer verderop krijg je vrij eenvoudig een wapenvergunning.” Hogere straffen maken naar zijn idee het verschil niet. “Daar zijn de belangen in die wereld te groot voor.”<\/section>\n
